Energy consumption of air conditioning units is influenced
by a number of factors including, but not limited to:

- The temperature inside the building/space
- The temperature outside of the building/space
- The level of insulation in the building
- The type of air conditioning unit you’re using

If there is a large difference between the temperature you want the interior to be and the current temperature of the exterior, you’ll use a larger amount of energy than if the difference was small. If the building lacks good insulation the heat or cool provided by the unit will dissipate faster and therefore this too will increase energy consumption. To keep energy consumption down, you could consider changing the temperature to more closely match the outside temperature. Of course, that’s not always possible. My air conditioning in Cornwall has to be set at a much higher temperature than outside throughout the winter. It’s also worth selecting an air conditioning unit that is more efficient in order to keep energy consumption low. Air conditioning providers such as EJN Cooling often advise you on the type of unit that will work best.
